We’ve been seeing Aussie meats popping up on menus across Canada lately, and let’s just say it looks delicious, mate! From Aussie Wagyu at bespoke steakhouses to lamb and grassfed beef at a super-popular chef-driven pita shop, you’re going to want all of these.
On the Canadian steakhouse scene, Aussie meats are on full display, from Wagyu to grassfed. Swanky, sexy spots like STK Toronto and Jacobs & Co are embracing the “wine list” style of meat on the menu, with a full array of options, cuts and sizes, and from all over the world. STK, headed by Aussie Beef Mate Scott Smith, even has a “World of Wagyu” section, where you can try flights of Wagyu from Australia, Japan and the US. Aussie Wagyu is the go-to for their famous “lil’ BRG” – sliders, as well as a melt-in-your mouth Wagyu flat iron steak, served with compound Wagyu fat butter that is flamed at the table to add some theater to the dining experience

At Jacobs & Co, chef Danny McCallum offers Aussie Wagyu choices from two different Queensland ranches, showcasing striploin and tenderloin, or a “California Cut” (aka center cut or boneless striploin). At the Westin Harbour Castle and at Jacobs & Co, they are featuring the “Little Joe” grassfed beef from Australia. This is a premium 100% grassfed product with a 4+ marble score, and it’s #aussome that it’s made its way to Canadian menus.

But it’s not only about the luxury! One of our favorites are the “Candy Steak” pitas at the global fast casual phenomenon Miznon, now open in Toronto. These are slow cooked grassfed Australian briskets, seared on the flattop and tucked in a pita with aioli, mustard, tomatoes, chili, red onions and pickles. Or maybe even better, you can get it as a “bag of golden meat” with just the pulled brisket and grilled onions to take away.
